Pocket Reduction A Periodontal Surgery Procedure
Patients diagnosed with advance periodontal disease are required to undergo periodontal treatments. Periodontal treatments are necessary in regaining healthy set of teeth and gums and it may involve periodontal surgery such as pocket reduction.
Pocket reduction is a procedure recommended by a dentist if the pockets are too deep and oral hygiene or at-home cleaning is not enough.
During the pocket reduction procedure, the dentist removes the disease- causing bacteria before securing the tissue in place. The procedure is necessary to prevent damage caused by the progression of periodontal disease and to regain and maintain a healthy smile. Bacteria prevention may not be enough for preventing the recurrence of the condition. Reducing the pockets at its early stage is better, deeper pockets are more difficult to clean and reduced.
Reduced pockets and a combination of daily oral hygiene and professional maintenance care increase your chances of keeping your natural teeth – and decrease the chance of serious health problems associated with periodontal disease.
